2001 Ford F-150 Coil Springs Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Front Coil Springs on 2001 Ford F-150?
A: The serviceable repair of front coil spring begins by lifting the vehicle onto a hoist and removing the wheel and tire assembly after the brake disc shield. The service begins by removing the front shock absorber through loosening two ceiling nuts while detaching the upper shock absorber nut with washer. The front suspension lower arm needs its brake hose bracket unattached before removing the front stabilizer bar link nut. Intialized to remove the lower ball joint castellated nut start by taking off the cotter pin. You need to use a Coil Spring Compressor to first compress the coil spring. The front wheel spindle should be maneuvered out of the way while using a Pitman Arm Puller to disconnect the lower ball joint from the front wheel spindle followed by coil spring removal. The installation process requires the coil spring to extend to the first hole before showing its ends at the second hole before installing it in the front suspension lower arm. Reinstall the lower ball joint together with a new castellated nut and cotter pin before you proceed to attach the brake hose bracket to the front suspension lower arm and its front stabilizer bar link nut. Insert the front shock absorber into its place once you install both lower nuts and secure the upper shock absorber washer and nut using Coil Spring Compressor. Reinstall the brake disc shield before putting back the tire and wheel assembly and perform inspections and adjustments to front end alignment.
