How to Service and Repair a Lower Control Arm on 2001 Lincoln LS?

Set the control arm work space by turning off the ignition and lifting the vehicle onto a hoist. Set aside the tire and wheel while removing two bolts one pushpin and the splash shield. Unscrew the stabilizer bar link nut by engaging the hex holding feature to keep the ball joint from rotating. After removing and discarding the socket, disconnect the link. Pull out the shock absorber and spring unit after taking off the bolt and nut. Twist the lower control arm ball joint nut again until it loosens yet retains its position. Keep the tapered washer from getting lost during this process. Separate the wheel knuckle from the lower arm by removing its two fasteners before taking out the front nut and bolt. Adjust the power steering gear out of the way to access and remove two nuts and bolts from the suspension lower arm. Keep the discarded nuts for replacement and detach the front suspension lower arm from the wheel knuckle. Put the new lower arm in position during installation then place a new caster adjustment cam bolt along with its nut before you start. Integrate the bolt from the rear part so its cam lobe faces down and create a suitable wheel alignment adjustment. Once finish setting the camber bolt and nut insert new pieces for the caster cam and be certain the assembler fits properly. Begin by placing the tapered washer before tightening the bolt on the control arm. After using the hex feature to secure the nut it should be torqued to specification using a specialized crow's foot wrench. Attache the shock absorber and springelements while making sure both lower bushing end caps stay in position and use a new bolt and nut. Replace the stabilizer bar link using a new nut and put back the splash shield and both bolts while attaching one pushpin. Secure the power steering gear by unwinding the center bolt nut and threading two bolts through it with three fresh bolts. Put back the wheel and tire parts afterward lower the car and adjust wheel alignment if needed.
