How to service the left side upper control arm on 2002 Lincoln LS?

Start the left upper control arm service by taking out the air cleaner and discarding its retaining nut. Take out the canister purge valve along with its retaining nut for disposal. Take away the shock absorber and spring unit from their location. Secure the wheel knuckle top to the body frame to stop knuckle movement. Use hex tool to keep upper control arm ball joint from turning when you loosen its nut. Then remove the nut keeping the tapered washer safe. Detach the suspension upper arm from the knuckle and throw away the nut. Take off the bolt and take out the suspension upper arm keeping the bolt for replacement. Place the suspension upper arm in position and wire in both new bolts one after another. Install the tapered washer onto the ball joint before you connect the upper control arm to the knuckle. Secure the nut at hand using the hex holder tool and tighten the nut to specification with your socket and torque wrench. Change the knuckle link wire before tightly attaching the suspension upper arm to the knuckle with a fresh nut. Position the shock absorber and spring system back in place after tightening the suspension lower arm-to-body nuts when the suspension rest at driveway level to prevent bushing damage. Thread the new nut before putting on a second new nut and then reintegrate the air cleaner and canister purge valve assembly.
