2005 Ford Freestar Seat Cushion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the rear seat cushion of the second-row bench seat on 2005 Ford Freestar?
A: The rear seat cushion of the second-row bench seat requires servicing which begins with taking out the second row bench seat. The shelter of the LH side provides access to the recliner handle clip so you can detach the clip and the LH recliner handle. The pivot handle clip and LH pivot handle accessible at the bottom of the LH side shield should be removed in addition to the pivot handle clip and LH pivot handle if vehicle is equipped. The LH side shield needs four screws to be removed for disassembly. The procedure should be repeated on the RH side shield by first removing the recliner handle and then the pivot handle if present. You must remove the screws from the RH side shield before extracting the bolt holding the LH safety belt buckle while setting its torque to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) upon reassembly. Disengage the cushion release cables through unclipping both RH and LH cable ends and their anchor retainers. Restoring the two LH backrest-to-cushion bolts must be tightened to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft) along with the bolt for the RH safety belt buckle that requires 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) torque. The backrest detachment from the cushion requires removal of two RH backrest-to-cushion bolts and proper tightening of these bolts to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft) while reinstalling. Separate both the RH and LH inboard and outboard riser shields by removing their respective four screws. Assembly of the seat riser requires you to tighten the fasteners to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). The eight seat track bolts need to be taken off before reinstallation where they require a torque of 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). When reinstalling this component tighten the bolt needed for the center safety belt buckle assembly to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). To separate the seat cushion trim cover and foam pad from the frame use the J-clips while avoiding any damage to the hook and loop strip between the upholstery and frame. The fasteners of the hook and loop system need to be separated before discarding all hog rings while extracting the foam pad from its cushion trim cover. Reassembly of the belt buckle system requires following the opposite order of disassembly steps.
