- Q: How to service the left exhaust manifold on 2005 Lincoln LS?A: A vehicle which remains in neutral stance on a rack will enable you to access the left exhaust manifold for service. The service begins with catalytic converter removal then the oil level indicator tube must be disconnected. The power steering reservoir must be detached from its bolts before setting it aside to remove screws and the lower left splash shield. Begin by taking out the heat shield stud bolt then remove the four heat shield securing bolts and proceed by disconnecting eight bolts along with eight spacers and finally the exhaust manifold before discarding the exhaust manifold gasket. Place the new exhaust manifold gasket together with the exhaust manifold and eight spacers and eight bolts before tightening them according to the specified sequence to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The heat shield can be secured back using four bolts tightened to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.) while the heat shield stud bolt requires 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) fastening torque. Attach the lower right splash shield followed by its screws after placing the power steering reservoir in position. Tighten the upper bolt to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) and the lower bolt to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). The last step includes reinstallation of the oil level indicator tube alongside catalytic converters.
