2005 Mercury Mountaineer Blend Door Actuator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the right-hand temperature blend door actuator for the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) on 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: The first step for servicing or repairing the right-hand temperature blend door actuator of the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) requires the depowering of the supplemental restraint system (SRS). The installer should start with A-pillar trim removal across both sides along with the removal of the cowl panel grille. Packaged inside the instrument panel center brace are four bolts and four nuts but builders should tighten these pieces to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) when reinstalling them. Proceed with your removal of the instrument panel center braces while taking care to protect the sunload sensor electrical connector through partial defroster grille removal. The outside of the vehicle requires removal of the instrument panel cowl bolt which needs tightening to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling the bolt. First disconnect the instrument panel upper bolt then apply a torque of 9 Nm (80 lb-in) for reinstallation and progress to disconnect the instrument panel bolt that requires 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torque during installation. The next task requires removing the two instrument panel side finish panels without disconnecting instrument panel bolts. The left-hand side bolts of the instrument panel should be loosened until the right-hand side panel can move freely before tightening them to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) torque specification upon reinstallation. Support the instrument panel with proper methods that protect wiring and components while choosing threaded rods of equivalent size and thread pattern to substitute right-hand support bolts. The instrument panel can be detached from the dash by removing both of its right-hand support bolts once proper support is in place. Detach the electrical connector from the right-hand temperature blend door actuator followed by the three screws and extract the actuator from its place. The procedure finishes by performing reinstallation according to the reversal of removal steps.
