2006 Ford Crown Victoria Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the left-hand exhaust manifold on 2006 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Service of the left-hand exhaust manifold begins with deactivation of any fire suppression equipment according to safety procedures. Set the vehicle position on a hoist in neutral at the same time disconnect the negative battery cable. Hang the steering wheel directly forward using an appropriate clamp while watching out for intermediate shaft motion to safeguard the Clock Spring from damage; repair the Clock Spring when needed for recentering. To detach the intermediate shaft from the steering gear the intermediate shaft pinch bolt requires removal before setting it aside. Use a tool to disconnect the two bolts which keep the exhaust manifold heat shield in place before removing the shield. Detach the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold by deleting the nuts then place the flange aside. The maintenance team disconnects the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module tube which is attached to the exhaust manifold while the tech removes the left-hand heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). The procedure requires removing eight manifold nuts that need replacement of the gasket before disposing it. Place the new exhaust manifold gasket along with the exhaust manifold together with eight nuts and tighten the sequence according to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Connect the left-hand HO2S whole to its socket while tightening it to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Also fasten the EGR system module tube to the exhaust manifold using 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Secure the catalytic converter flange using its ears while tightening its manifold connecting nuts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Rewire the exhaust manifold heat shield and fasten it with two bolts which require tightening at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The intermediate shaft in the steering gear needs to be properly placed before installation of its pinch bolt and final tightening at 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Reconnecting the negative battery cable constitutes the last step while the repowering of the fire suppression system should follow when possible under observed safety protocols.
