  • Q: How to service and repair the rear parking brake cable on 2006 Ford Crown Victoria?
    A: The procedure requires disabling the parking brake control through operation of the parking brake release handle. The air suspension switch in the luggage compartment needs to be turned off to block electrical power because this precaution prevents air springs from inflating or deflating unexpectedly while performing maintenance tasks. All vehicles with fire suppression systems require system de-powering as the next step. The vehicle must be placed in the NEUTRAL gear before hoisting it into position. Remove the clip from the parking brake adjuster while simultaneously activating the parking brake control until it reaches its maximum state. Push the divider at the parking brake adjuster clip to lock it in place before letting the parking brake control return to its normal position. Release the front parking brake cable along with conduit from the rear cable while pressing retaining tabs for removing the right-hand parking brake rear cable and conduit from its frame bracket. The left-hand parking brake rear cable and conduit retainer must be removed from the cable adjuster and the right-hand parking brake rear cable and conduit bolts need to be removed while tightening both bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) torque specification. Gently disconnect the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the parking brake cable connector before unclipping it from the axle housing to remove the cable with conduit. The installation follows the opposite process of removal and includes cable tension adjustments. The vehicle requires fire suppression system repowering before continuing with reassembly while keeping the air suspension service switch ON in case it exists.
