Clean engine coolant must be applied to the O-ring seal for protection before breaking loose the three bolts and removing the thermostat housing cover along with the O-ring seal and thermostat. You should tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) after installation by following the reverse order of removal. Clean the O-ring seal before checking its condition. Replace it with a new one if the condition warrants replacement and then complete the cooling system fill-up and bleeding process.
