2006 Ford Freestar Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Rear Coil Springs on 2006 Ford Freestar?
A: The service process for rear coil springs begins with the vehicle being in NEUTRAL position on a hoist with the rear axle receiving support from a jack stand until the rear axle U-channel extends fully into the saddle of the jack stand to shield from damage. The brake caliper removal should never include hanging it from the flexible hose because appropriate support is required to prevent damaging the parking brake cable. Detach and dispose of the two brake caliper anchor plate bolts before placing the brake caliper assembly with its anchor plate properly aside. The next step involves unstalling the shock absorber lower bolt and nut while the axle needs to be lowered at a steady pace using the jack stand until the spring can be removed. Take note that the spring insulators could exit together with the spring. Installation of the rear spring lower insulator requires affixing it onto the rear axle assembly while pressing it into position until it sets correctly. Place the upper insulator on top of the spring before fastening the rear spring to the rear axle assembly while making sure it is correctly seated. Place the brake caliper with anchor plate assembly into alignment while the rear axle is up using a stand. Install two new bolts before tightening them to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). Install the shock absorber onto the rear axle while fixing the shock absorber lower bolt followed by its nut and torque them to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
