2006 Ford Taurus Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the intermediate steering shaft on 2006 Ford Taurus?
A: The procedure to service the steering column intermediate shaft starts by positioning the steering wheel at straight-ahead while keeping the ignition switch OFF. The intermediate shaft's disconnection must happen without rotating the steering wheel to protect the Clock Spring; the Clock Spring requires removal and recentering if shaft rotational occurred. The service of steering column intermediate shaft begins by taking out the lower coupling pinch bolt to detach the intermediate shaft from the coupling before discarding it. You should first install the bolt until it reaches torque of 47 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). A complete intermediate shaft removal requires first removing the three nuts then the intermediate seal and finally using the pinch bolt to discard the intermediate shaft while discarding the bolt. Reverse the complete installation by tightening the pinch bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) after completing the removal steps.
