2007 Lincoln Navigator Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Shift Cable and bracket for floor shift on 2007 Lincoln Navigator?
A: The first step when servicing or repairing floor shift shift cable and bracket is to put the vehicle into NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Vehicle owners with a 6R75 transmission should start the process by first removing PRNDL trim and console tray and cup holder insert and then the screw followed by console upper trim. Detach the shift cable from all three points which include the selector lever, selector lever arm ball stud and the selector lever housing. A vehicle with the 6HP26 transmission requires removal of the selector lever trim plate followed by lifting the floor console upper panel from its position at the rear of the vehicle. Remove the center console LH kick panel following the disconnect of shift cable from the selector lever housing and selector lever arm ball stud. First uninstall the shift cable followed by its grommet then detach any heat shield present when needed. Turn the locking tab to detach the shift cable from the manual control lever ball stud and follow by removing the shift cable clip and bracket from the transmission. The transmission will accept the shift cable bracket and its transmission bolts followed by a torque setting of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Secure the locking tabs of the shift cable while snapping its end against the ball stud to press the cable into the bracket until it clicks. The manual control lever ball stud requires a connection from the shift cable by depressing the locking tab while you listen for an audible click. Remove heat shield only when necessary to replace it before moving onto the reinstallation of heat shield and shift cable and grommet. Users must align the shift cable properly among the selector lever or selector lever housing and selector lever arm ball stud on 6R75 transmission cars before tightening each joint with an audible confirmation. The procedure requires reinstalling the console upper trim and its matching screw followed by PRNDL trim and console tray and cup holder insert. The shift cable must be fastened to the selector lever housing while also attaching the center console LH kick panel for 6HP26 transmission vehicles before verifying all components produce audible clicks during installation. Place the floor console upper panel together with the selector lever trim plate and adjust the shift cable if necessary.
