2006 Mercury Monterey Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2006 Mercury Monterey?
A: Service and repair of the coil spring begins with taking off the cowl panel grille. The vehicle should be in NEUTRAL position while you position it on the hoist. The hex tool will prevent turning the studs as you take off the stabilizer bar upper link nut before discarding it. The installation requires you to tighten the nut to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.). When servicing the tripod CV joint avoid allowing the axle shaft to extend beyond its normal position because such movement can trigger internal failure of shaft components as well as axle failure. Start by removing the wheel knuckle pinch bolt but keep the front wheel knuckle pushed down to free the strut and spring assembly; support the front wheel knuckle to maintain the axle shaft inside its normal position and torque the pin bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. First disconnect electrical connectors from hood disarm switch and wiper motor and then remove cabin air filter from installation. Begin by tightening two LH cowl panel bolts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) prior to removal and install them again at 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.). Lastly, remove the remaining seven bolts and install them at 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) during reinstallation. Begin by removing the cowl panel along with the disconnection of speed control cables whenever they exist. Disconnect the shock absorber upper nuts by tightening them to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) before removing them and then remove the shock absorber and spring assembly. The installation process for disassembly requires the reversal of removal steps while performing front end alignment inspections to make required adjustments.
