The service of the evaporator core requires a vacuum leak test to be performed first whenever leakage is suspected during removal. First remove the heater core while proceeding with the removal of five outer pins that secure the evaporator core cover and six inner pins. The evaporator core cover separation from heater core and evaporator core housing needs to be done carefully with the disposal of the rope seal. Next, remove the evaporator core. Reverse the removal procedure to install the evaporator core by applying RTV sealant to the entire groove joint of the housing instead of the rope seal. The last step requires you to tighten the evaporator core cover screws diagonally across the pattern to maintain equal distribution of the RTV sealant.
