2007 Ford Freestar A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the A/C Accumulator in the HVAC System on 2007 Ford Freestar?
A: Start the suction accumulator servicing procedures by recovering the refrigerant from the HVAC system. Vehicle maintenance begins with discarding the old O-ring seals from the two A/C fitting nuts before replacing them with tightened new ones at a setting of 8 Nm (71 lb-in). First disconnect the A/C cycling switch electrical connector then take out the suction accumulator by removing its three bolts. Reinstallation requires following removal step sequence while using new O-ring seals then lubricating the refrigerant system properly with PAG oil. The refrigerant system needs evacuation followed by testing and charging to finish up the process. The refrigerant compressor oil (mineral oil) functions to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals but must never be used as a lubricant within the R-134a refrigerant system; only PAG refrigerant compressor oil should be applied to an A/C compressor. A suction accumulator replacement becomes necessary only when physical contamination evidence emerges from a failed A/C compressor or suction accumulator damage occurs.
