2007 Mercury Mountaineer Control Arm Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the upper control arm on 2007 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Begin the upper control arm service process by measuring how far the hub center sits from the fender lip when the vehicle stands in level static position. Position the vehicle in neutral and raise the suspension by using a suitable jack under the wheel knuckle until it matches the first measurement taken when the car rests on a hoist. Remove and discard the upper arm outboard nut as well as the bolt. Set aside the flag nut which controls rear camber because you will replace it with a non-flag nut to readjust camber then disconnect the upper arm inboard bolt and upper arm. Position the arm upper section while you introduce a new inboard bolt using the non-flag nut before you torque it to 250 Nm. After installing the outboard bolt with its head pointing toward the front of the vehicle to defend wheel health you must add fresh front and back outboard hardware pieces before applying 275 Nm (203 ft. lbs.) torque to them. Lower the suspension while removing the jack and verify the rear end alignment before adjusting it when required.
