The procedure begins with removing both bolts which fasten the exhaust manifold heat shield before removing eight exhaust manifold nuts and studs and the exhaust manifold itself; dispose of all components. The use of metal scrapers or wire brushes along with abrasive tools should be strictly avoided when cleaning sealing surfaces because they can create damage which leads to leakages. The cleaning process requires the use of a plastic scraper combined with metal surface prep based on product instructions to remove and dispose of the old exhaust manifold gaskets. Check for damage on the exhaust manifold. The installation process requires new exhaust manifold gaskets as well as studs which you should place between the two gaskets and exhaust manifold before installing the eight studs and tightening them to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
