2008 Ford Expedition Wheel Bearing Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the wheel bearing and wheel hub on 2008 Ford Expedition?
A: Service and repair of the wheel bearing along with the wheel hub begins with tire and wheel removal. An assistant should maintain brake pedal pressure to stop axle rotation before the technician removes and discards the halfshaft nut. A suitable hub puller should be used to split the outboard constant velocity (CV) joint away from the wheel hub. Maintain the brake hose safety by removing bolts on the caliper and anchor plate assembly but use mechanic's wire to support it from damage. After unhitching the brake brake disc begin by unhitching the wheel speed sensor harness retainers before breaking the electrical connection. Lastly push the grommet through the brake disc shield. The wheel bearing and wheel hub with sensor assembly can be removed by discarding the four bolts. Install the wheel speed sensor while securing its bolt with 18 Nm (13 lb-ft) torque limit. After positioning the wheel bearing along with wheel hub and wheel speed sensor install four bolts to a torque of 185 Nm (136 lb-ft). Render the sensor wire through the brake disc shield access hole. The wheel speed sensor harness should be reinstalled into its retainers and electric connection must be made by pushing the grommet through the shield. Align the brake disc before assembling the caliper with anchor plate and fasten the bolts to 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) torque specification. An assisting person needs to engage the brake pedal to halt axle rotation as you torque the halfshaft nut to 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). Reinstall the wheel together with its tire.
