How to Service the Front Headlight Bulb on 2008 Ford Explorer?

Safety comes first when servicing the headlamp bulb of the Explorer and Mountaineer because the bulbs contain gas pressure which can cause the glass to shatter if handled by the base. Keep the bulb off the assembly only during the moment before bulb replacement to prevent performance degradation and entrance of contaminants that could settle on both lens and reflector surfaces. Detach the lamp assembly from its position first before rotating the headlamp bulb counterclockwise one-eighth turn to extract the bulb. The installation of a new bulb can be performed by following the reverse steps of removal.
