Service procedures require handling the passenger air bag module by facing its air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam toward other objects while maintaining a safe distance from the body to prevent accidental air bag deployment-linked injuries. It is unsafe to probe electrical connectors of air bag, safety canopy or side air curtain modules because it can result in unintentional deployment which produces serious injury or death risk. The Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse controls the air bag warning indicator which activates when the ignition is ON but application of the vehicle should require a fully operational Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) without existing faults. The SRS must be depowered first before removing the three passenger air bag module bolts. The manufacturer suggests a careful approach with the passenger air bag module so you should never use your hands to grip the passenger air bag cover edges to protect against damages. First unscrew the module partially from the panel before removing its two electrical connectors and extracting the module from the instrument control section.
