2009 Ford Focus Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder on 2009 Ford Focus?
A: Start clutch master cylinder service and repair work by disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by removing brake fluid from the reservoir until the MIN mark appears before reinstalling the cap. Begin the procedure by removing the BJB bolt before detaching the BJB from the mounting bracket while handling both the wiring harness retainer and the BJB retainer clip properly. The fluid loss should be blocked with tubing caps before disconnecting the clutch hydraulic tubes. The instrument panel lower panel requires unfastening before removing it while also detaching the Data Link Connector (DLC) along with the hood release cable. First disconnect the upper hydraulic tube from the front bulkhead followed by the removal of the brake pedal actuating rod retaining pin and the electrical connectors for the starter safety switch and the clutch position switch and speed control deactivation switch and brake lamp switch from the pedal assembly. The clutch pedal assembly first needs its switches removed before practitioners uninstall four clutch pedal assembly nuts to reach the clutch master cylinder bolts. Place the pedal assembly into the vise while removing its two clutch master cylinder bolts to separate the master cylinder by sliding the actuating rod from the pedal arm. Run the assembly process by mounting the new clutch master cylinder to the pedal assembly before applying the actuating rod and fastening the bolts at 9 Nm (80 lb-in). After placing the pedal assembly into the vehicle make sure the brake pedal actuating rod retaining pin is secured before adding and tightening four nuts to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). Put back the lower hydraulic tube and fasten the clip. The plungers measuring length should be: speed control deactivation switch (green) at 24 mm (0.94 in), brake lamp switch (grey) at 21 mm (0.82 in) and starter safety switch (black) at 26 mm (1.02 in). Place the brake lamp switch with a counterclockwise rotation and the other two switches should face clockwise to prevent binding. The beginning stage requires attaching electrical connectors to switches then adjusting the starter safety switch through clutch pedal release. You will also need to install new O-ring seals. Reconnect the hood release cable along with the DLC to the instrument panel lower panel by using fasteners and screws to secure them. Insert the clips into the hydraulic supply tubes connected to the clutch master cylinder. The BJB requires reinstallation after attaching both wiring harness and retainer clip before securing the BJB bolt. Complete the brake fluid reservoir until it reaches the MAX mark with the recommended fluid while performing hydraulic clutch system bleeding before reattaching the battery ground cable.
