Begin the fuel rail service process on 4.6L engines by constantly preventing smoking or open flame sources from nearby fuel components due to their highly flammable properties. All fuel tubes or components require pressure relief from the system before disconnection to avoid fuel spraying which happens due to high-pressure fuel even when the engine is shut off. Tooling up and plugging all open equipment lines or tubes should be done with regular cleaning. This method prevents equipment damage. Before separating connectors that used liquid or vapor tubes make sure to blow compressed air through the retaining clip area to remove debris. Begin the labor by unhooking the battery ground cable along with engine cover removal. First you need to relieve fuel pressure then take off the Air Cleaner (ACL) along with its outlet tube. Remove the EVAP purge valve tube from the
Intake Manifold by disconnecting its quick connect coupling and also detach the EVAP
Canister Purge Valve electrical connector. Move on to detach the quick connect couplings after which you should remove the PCV tube before unscrewing the bolt together with the EVAP canister purge valve. First disconnect all eight
Fuel Injector electrical connectors before unthreading the four fuel rail bolts while torquing them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when reinstalling. Cable removal begins with keeping the fuel injectors within the intake manifold so you can easily separate them from the fuel rail later. Afterwards disassemble the fuel rail from its eight injectors. You should install fresh O-ring seals on fuel injector-to-fuel rail connections before applying engine oil to them for installation while discarding the previous O-ring seals.
