Ford E-250 Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the outer tie rod end on Ford E-250?
A: The servicing procedure for the outer tie rod end begins with hoisting the vehicle in NEUTRAL position. Torque up the nut until the following slot matches up with the stud hole before the installment while avoiding loose connection for proper alignment. Discard the cotter pin by removing the nut retainer, the nut and the pin. The installation requires torquing the nut up to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft). The wheel Spindle needs to be separated from the outer tie rod end by using a Ball Joint Separator. Note down how many times you need to turn the outer tie rod end for removal of the adjusting sleeve for use when reinstallation. The technician should loosen the adjusting sleeve clamp nut before removing the outer tie rod end while tightening it to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Adjusment sleeve bolts, nuts and clamps should reach between 45 degrees of vertical angle while their threaded ends should face towards the vehicle front and the sleeve clamp opening needs to follow a downward path at similar levels of verticality. Complete the reinstallation by following removal steps and use a fresh cotter pin during installation. The front toe requires final inspection and adjustment if needed.
