How to service the air filter element on Ford Explorer?

Service the air filter starting by maintaining connection of the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector. The wiring harness retainer on vehicles equipped with a 4.0L (SOHC) engine should be detached from the air filter outlet pipe. The necessary procedure for vehicles with 4.6L (3V) engine requires removing the wiring harness retainer from the coolant expansion tank. Disconnection of the air filter outlet pipe from the air filter begins after loosening the clamp. In the first step detach and remove the air filter cover after which you need to extract the air filter. A proper cleaning of the interior air filter tray must happen before starting installation and requires performing steps backwards from removal.
