How to Service and Repair the Transmission Pan on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?

Service and repair of the fluid pan requires an initial placement of the vehicle on a hoist while in NEUTRAL position. The transmission servo heat shield that may exist requires unclipping from the fluid pan rail to enable fluid pan removal. The pans should drain their transmission fluid by removing every screw except two at the front opening then loosening these two screws and using a pry tool to drop the rear of the pan to drain the fluid. Discard the old gasket before removing the two front screws then taking off the transmission fluid pan. The transmission fluid filter must be unscrewed while discarding it and all surfaces of the fluid pan and magnet require cleaning before installation. Clean automatic transmission fluid should be used to lubricate new fluid filter O-ring seals before you install the filter onto the main control valve body. Set the fluid pan magnet within the pan before you apply a new gasket and perform screw insertion while maintaining loose screw tension. Position the servo heat shield back in place before following a crisscross screw-tightening pattern on the assembly. Pour clean automatic transmission fluid amounting to 3.7 liters (4 quarts) into the transmission while maintaining the correct level before starting the engine and moving the range selector through each gear to examine the fluid level.
