How to service the flywheel on Ford Explorer Sport Trac?

In order to service the flywheel, take off the transmission, then flywheel. Clean and inspect it. Specified flywheel bolts, not ordinary, are used. Install the flywheel, and tighten the bolts in two steps, first to 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs. ), then to 71 Nm (52 ft. lbs. ). Reinstall the transmission.

Removal of the flexplate can be achieved by removing the transmission at first and then by removing the 8 bolts that hold the flexplate in place. Install new bolts using torque-to-yield bolts. Tighten in three steps: first 13 Nm, 50 Nm and then 90 degrees more. Install the transmission again.
