Q: How to service and repair the wheel bearing and wheel hub on F-250 and F-350 on Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: A starting point for wheel bearing and Wheel Hub servicing and repairing on F-250 and F-350 models requires wheel and tire removal. Support the brake assembly using mechanic wire instead of letting the caliper hang from the brake hose to prevent hose damage. Remove the Brake Caliper anchor plate bolts. Begin by taking off the grease cap together with the cotter pin followed by the wheel spindle nut retainer and nut and flat washer before trashing the wheel spindle nut. Check the wheel spindle threads along with its components while cleaning or replacing damaged parts before removing the outer bearing and Brake Disc assembly with hub. A slide hammer in combination with a bearing seal remover should be used for inner wheel bearing seal and bearing removal to avoid damage to the wheel bearing cage. During installation check that no lubricant exists on any part of the bearings, hub along with spindle then assess the components for damage. All bearing and bearing cup components that show damage should be replaced as a single unit. To install new cups properly into their locations use a bearing cup driver tool according to the manufacturer instructions. Add wheel bearing grease into the hub until it reaches the level of bearing cups before filling wheel bearings with grease. Set the inner wheel bearing inside its designated inner cup while implementing a full placement of the wheel bearing hub seal and proper lubrication. Set the brake disc assembly at the center of the wheel spindle to avoid damage before placing it onto the spindle. Place the outer wheel bearing cone assembly together with its flat washer loosely onto the spindle without cinching the nut at this stage. When ready install the brake caliper assembly with the two bolts at a torque setting of 225 Nm while also adjusting the correct end play of the wheel bearing before tightening. Reinstall the wheel by itself and the tire on top.
