How to Service and Repair the Vapor Canister on Ford Fusion?

The evaporative emission control canister service requires the car to be in NEUTRAL position on a hoist system. Disconnecting the battery ground cable reduces electrical spark formation that could begin fuel vapor ignition. The service starts by detaching the electrical connector from the EVAP canister vent solenoid and then moving to disconnect the vapor tube from the dust separator. Use proper tools to detach the two quick connect fittings from the EVAP canister assembly vapor tube. You can remove the EVAP canister assembly through the process of unfastening two nuts and two bolts. To install the new canister it is vital to set the fasteners at 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque before reversing the removal steps. The evaporative emission system leak test should follow the repair verification drive cycle to verify system functionality.
