To service the steering column cover, shift the automatic transmission to 1. Remove the upper cover, disconnect the bi-fuel tank selector switch, and release the push clip from the lower cover. Disconnect the hood latch and parking brake release handles, then remove the lower cover. Reverse the steps to install.

How to service and repair the steering column cover on Ford Freestar?

To maintain the steering column cover, loosen the three bolts of the instrument panel cover to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) and re-tighten them when attaching the instrument panel cover. Next, unscrew the cover and the two bolts which bind the reinforcement together, and tighten them to 8 Nm when putting back. Reverse the steps to install.
