How to service the headlight bulb on Ford Mustang?

Begin servicing the headlamp bulb by enabling both the headlamp switch and ignition switch to OFF position. Before handling it keep in mind that the bulb includes pressurized gas which could break if the glass envelope receives damage or falls thus always hold the bulb at its base and stay away from contacting the glass surface. The LH bulb service requires air cleaner housing removal on vehicles equipped with Bullitt package. The procedure for changing halogen bulbs requires unhooking the electrical wire followed by turning the bulb counterclockwise by 1/8th rotation to take it away from the headlamp unit. To replace an HID bulb disconnect its electrical connector from the headlamp assembly while removing the HID bulb access cover which releases the retainer before bulb removal. Extended bulb removal should be avoided to protect the headlamp from contamination while bulb operation without installation must always remain prohibited.

The pressure-controlled gas inside the headlamp bulb creates a hazard when the glass envelope gets scratched or the bulb sustains impact damage therefore proper base-handling procedures along with glass avoidance are needed to maintain bulb safety. The correct timing for bulb removal occurs directly before the replacement installation because longer exposure disrupts performance while letting contaminants access the headlamp components that might deposit onto reflector surfaces and lens areas. Never operate the headlamps when the bulb is absent from the vehicle. Begin by taking out the headlamp assembly after which you can rotate the bulb retainer counterclockwise for one-eighth of a turn before its removal together with the bulb. Place the new bulb in by following steps which are opposite to the removal process.
