The servicing process for the occupant detection sensor on the power seat track begins by handling the front passenger seat assembly and track with care to prevent damage occurrence. It is normal for the air bag warning indicator to show illumination when both the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is extracted and the ignition switch is ON. Operation of the SRS with all faults repaired should precede vehicle handover to the customer. Remove the power seat track by first notating the positions of its two rails. To perform this task start by detaching the nut and safety belt buckle from the inboard ODS weight sensor bolt followed by removing the front retainer and outboard seat track riser cover shield. The two retainers together with the Occupant Detection Sensor weight sensor bolt protection bracket must be extracted. To fix the defective ODS weight sensor bolt on one side you must remove its nut from the seat track front cross brace while discarding both ODS weight sensor bolt nuts from that side. Cut the front seat track motor cable away from the damaged seat track rail before taking off its side plate with ODS weight sensor bolts installed. The plate should be clamped to a bench or table without excessive tightening because damage will occur. The retaining clip on the faulty ODS weight sensor bolt must be discarded before opening the clamp to extract the bolt with its spring washer. Start by setting the ODS weight sensor bolt together with spring washer inside the side plate before using the clamp to compress it. Remove the clamp from the side plate when the retaining clip sits completely in the groove under the ODS weight sensor O-ring seal. Reinstall the front seat track motor cable and ODS weight sensor bolts according to their necessary positions on the seat track rail and secure them using two new ODS weight sensor bolt nuts tightened to 33 Nm (24 lb-ft). Install the front cross brace seat track nut while providing a torque of 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). Install the ODS weight sensor bolt protection bracket together with the two retainers followed by the front retainer and outboard seat track riser cover shield. The last step involves installing the safety belt buckle and nut while tightening them to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). The power seat track and passenger seat should be reinstalled afterward. Repower the SRS but delay the proof out procedure and execute the correct procedure based on original or new ODS system component installation which requires a Zero Seat Weight Test or System Reset procedure.

To maintain the Occupant Detection Sensor (ODS) users should utilize an entirely new ODS system service kit consisting of the seat cushion foam pad and bladder with pressure sensor and Occupant Detection System Module (ODSM). A proper calibration exists between components so these parts need to remain as an assembled whole unit. Confirm the service kit authenticity through a test of the ODSM electrical connector glue which ensures its permanent connection. The Seat Wiring Harness will remain in place with an ODS service kit connector linked to the ODSM connector yet omitting the pressure sensor connector yet securing it. The service technician must first disable SRS then take out the passenger seat before disconnecting electrical connectors following the designated order. Handle seat cushion pan assembly with care to protect components before you detach the ODSM from the pan along with pulling all ODS components through the opening. A scan tool must activate the ODS system reset process either after performing disassembly tasks or installing new trim covers or service kits. Check for foreign elements prior to component installation while directing all elements into the correct setup and maintaining a straight position of the pressure sensor hose. Securely place the pressure sensor and ODSM on the seat track then fasten the seat cushion trim cover with tightening bolts at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Connect the electrical wires in the correct sequence while confirming that no electrical wires are still attached to the ODS bladder or pressure sensor hose. Reinstall the seat before activating the SRS system but avoid performing the proof-test procedure immediately afterward. All reset operations must happen only after verifying that the seat contains no obstacles and withstands temperature ranges from 6°C to 36°C while remaining within 8 to 18 volts. The first failed reset attempt requires an inspection of both ODS system components and wiring for damage before performing another reset. Check the SRS performance using the air bag warning indicator after powering the ignition cycle. A scan tool helps to delete DTCs from the system; Ford Motor Company requires delivery of all inoperative ODS components including seat cushion foam pad, bladder and ODSM along with pressure sensor and hose and electrical connectors and wire harness.

On the passenger seat track assembly resides the Occupant Detection Sensor (ODS) but maintenance professionals cannot treat it as an individual component. The Occupant Detection Sensor can only be reached after removing the passenger seat track.

Motorists should not attempt to service the Occupant Detection Sensor (ODS) because this component nests inside the passenger seat track assembly. The occupant detection sensor requires removal of the passenger seat track to unlock it.

Each Occupant Detection Sensor weight sensor exists inside the passenger seat track assembly without option for individual service. The sensor can be reached after removing the passenger seat track.

The Occupant Detection Sensor (ODS) system service requires performing all calibrations simultaneously when replacing any component in the assembly which includes the seat cushion foam pad and bladder with pressure sensor and ODSM. Separating production ODS from service ODS depends on the state of their electrical connector which permits disconnection for production ODS but the service ODS has a glued connector that should remain untouched. Start the work only after checking that the Supplemental Restraints System (SRS) operates normally without defects. The service begins by taking out the passenger seat and turning off SRS power before unhooking electrical connectors alongside separating wiring clips which include the ODSM and pressure sensor connectors. Detach all heated seat components from the seat including heated seats and cushion heater mats when the seat features this functionality. Unscrew the four bolts connecting the seat cushion to the track and eliminate the seat cushion from its position with the pan assembly without applying any pressure that might damage parts. Drain the pressure sensor from its bracket by bending its retaining tab. Then you can remove the hose components which include the ODSM, bladder retainers and ODS bladder rivets. The ODS hose and pressure sensor assembly needs to be fed through the seat cushion pan opening before removing the entire component with the bladder. After disassembly of the trim cover and service kit and any ODS system resets need to be performed through a scan tool. Route the pressure sensor and hose properly while preventing any kinks before installing the ODS bladder through pin-type retainers. Attach the pressure sensor to its bracket by properly sealing the retaining tab before fitting the ODSM into place through riveted installation. You should place the foam pad before installing the seat cushion trim while inspecting for outside objects. The seat track receives a seat cushion and pan assembly which should be fastened using four bolts maintained at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torque. Reconnect every electrical connector together with heating seat wiring clips as needed before placing the front passenger seat back using pre-timed SRS reactivation. Execute the ODS system reset only when the ODSM shows 8 to 18 volts of voltage and operates within 6°C to 36°C (42°F to 97°F) temperature range with no objects present on the seat. Perform the ODS system reset after the ignition switch ON cycle waits for at least eight seconds. The ODS system requires a second reset if the initial attempt fails so check for damage in all ODS system components including the connector, wiring, and pressure sensor hose. To finish the verification process check the air bag warning light using a scan tool while monitoring the indicator during an ignition cycle and then confirm its six second illumination before complete shutdown of the warning light system. Investigate and solve all observed faults before clearing all data through the scan tool.
