An inspection of the spark plug must reveal a bridged gap and inspect if deposit buildup has sealed the electrodes gap resulting from oil or carbon fouling. Check and cleanse the spark plug if necessitated. Check for oil fouling through analysis of wet black solidifications found on the spark plug parts since this condition develops when engine oil flows into the chamber due to flawed rings and broken piston rings and valve guide gaps and worn-out bearings so address all potential leak scenarios before buying another spark plug. A diagnostic method to check for carbon fouling requires inspecting black dry fluffy carbon deposits on spark plug insulator tips along with exposed shell surfaces and electrodes; an incorrect heat range can produce these deposits along with a dirty air cleaner or rich fuel mixture or prolonged idling; cleaning the fouled spark plug is necessary. Normal burn inspection shows light tan or gray residue on the firing tip of the spark plug. A new spark plug becomes necessary when pre-ignition occurs because it damages the insulator and causes electrode melting and releases metallic deposits from incorrect ignition timing or unauthorized hell-coil insert installation or using the wrong fuel type. Check for overheating signs through electrode white or light gray spotting alongside bluish-burnt appearance resulting from engine overheating, incorrect fuel type or loose spark plugs, inappropriate spark plug heat ranges, insufficient fuel pressure or incorrect ignition timing timing. An evaluation for fused deposits should be performed due to their melted or spotty nature which looks like bubbles or blisters from sudden acceleration instances but these can be cleaned off a spark plug.

The first task in servicing spark plugs includes removing ignition coil-on-plugs from the system. Hand tools must be exclusively used for spark plug removal and replacement tasks because this approach prevents both cylinder head damage and spark plug harm. Compressed air should be used to clean away external debris that collects inside the spark plug well before beginning the plug removal process. You need to conduct an intensive inspection of removed spark plugs. The new spark plugs must be installed with a torque value of 18 Nm (13 lb-ft) while also adjusting the spark plug gap when required before doing the opposite installation steps to finish the work.

Adjust the spark plug gap as required.

The six spark plugs should be tightened to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).

Inspect them thoroughly.
