- Q: How to service and repair the front control arm on 2004 Lincoln LS?A: Begin the front control arm service and repairs on a vehicle that is in NEUTRAL position on a lifting platform. Start by removing the shock absorber and spring components first when servicing the upper arm part of the front control arm. Set the hex holding feature to stop the stud from turning when you uninstall the nut from ball joints and stabilizer bar links. Reverse the removal steps when reinstalling each suspension part during specified order. The brake caliper should never hang from the hose during removal because this can damage the system. To work on the LH upper arm disconnect its nut and reservoir while plugging out the fluid level sensor and brake master cylinder main pressure transducer electrical connectors if present. Undo the reservoir bolt first to reach the master cylinder bolt and then take out the two brake nuts to set the brake master cylinder aside. You need to remove all bolts, screws, and shield plus pushpins to reach the lower arm-to-frame bolt. Take the bolts out from the steering gear and place it to the side before extracting the lower arm bolt. Ensure your front end alignment before putting the lower arm into place. Keep these nuts loose until you fully install the parts with the vehicle resting on its wheels and tires. Spread a thin layer of lubricant on the joint surfaces at wheel bearing installation.
