- Q: How to service and repair the upper control arm on 2005 Lincoln LS?A: The upper control arm servicing process starts with hub cap removal and fender lip to control hub center measuring on flat ground. Place the vehicle on a hoist when it is in the NEUTRAL setting. You should unclip the ABS sensor wire retainer from the upper arm and remove the ABS sensor bolt and sensor after ensuring the ABS sensor ring stays intact. Beginning the upper control arm service and repair requires you to remove the upper ball joint-to-wheel knuckle nut followed by separating the upper ball joint from the wheel knuckle. Under maintenance proceed with the removal of the suspension upper arm by uninstalling suspension upper arm-to-subframe nuts and bolts which will be discarded afterward. Keep the suspension at curb height before tightening the upper arm-to-subframe nuts because it prevents bushing damage. Place the jack stand below the suspension lower arm until the initial measurement of hub-to-fender distance aligns. Reconnect the ABS sensor wire to the back of the suspension upper arm. Complete the procedure by lowering the suspension after securing the suspension upper nuts to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) then removing the jack stand and lowering the vehicle.
