2006 Ford E-250 Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor for the Turbine Shaft and Intermediate Shaft on 2006 Ford E-250?
A: Service and repair operations of both Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor and Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor initiate with the vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist and utilization of a suitable high-lift transmission jack. Start by removing the two wire harness retainers positioned on the rear crossmember and place the wire harness to the side. The service begins with unscrewing the LH crossmember nuts and removing the LH crossmember bracket while also removing the RH crossmember nuts and RH crossmember bracket. Perform the TSS and intermediate shaft speed sensor disconnection by lowering the transmission just enough to work on them and removing the electrical connector from the TSS-intermediate shaft combination speed sensor unit. Remove the sensor only when all nearby areas have no foreign substances to prevent sensor contamination. The O-ring requires automatic transmission fluid as lubricant before installing the TSS and intermediate shaft combination speed sensor which needs tightening to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) torque using a bolt. The LH crossmember bracket installation requires placement of transmission and crossmember followed by two LH crossmember bracket nut installation and torquing them to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). The RH crossmember bracket and nuts must also receive this sequence of installation before both receive final tightening to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Reattach the wire harness after securing it with the two retaining clips which are located at the back of the crossmember.
