- Q: How to service and repair the upper control arm on all on 2006 Lincoln LS?A: The first step to handle upper control arm services and repairs across all vehicles involves putting the vehicle into neutral position then using a hoist. The first step involves removing the power steering reservoir nut to discard it before you place the reservoir to the side. First remove the retainers together with the LH upper shock mount cover before you remove the EVAP canister purge valve nuts. After disconnection set the valve aside and tighten all nuts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) during installation. Users need to disconnect the fluid level sensor connector along with the brake master cylinder main pressure transducer electrical connector in case their vehicle includes this equipment. First back out the reservoir bolt to gain access to the master cylinder bolt before tightening it to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) during installation. The installation requires removal of the brake master cylinder nuts which needs to be set aside before tightening to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. The package requires replacement of upper arm-to-body nuts before installation which should reach a torque of 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). No person should attempt to remove the center nut because it maintains the upper spring mount position and failure to follow this safety measure can cause injury. The technician must remove the two shock absorber upper mount nuts but should tighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling them. The hex-holding tool allows you to secure the stud before removing the stabilizer bar link lower nut to disconnect it from the stabilizer bar when installation requires a force of 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). Begin by discarding the lower shock absorber nut and bolt while extracting the shock absorber and spring assembly unit for installation with 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.) torque clamp.
