2008 Ford Escape Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the vacuum brake booster on 2008 Ford Escape?
A: The first step to servicing the vacuum brake booster requires a disconnect of the vacuum hose/check valve assembly from the brake booster. Unscrew the two master cylinder nuts before removing the parts while tightening the new nuts to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) torque when returning them as standard. You should avoid removing brake tube fittings because the brake master cylinder assembly should move in a forward direction instead. Service of brake pedal or brake booster requires removal of stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch when present since both components should operate with the brake pedal in its resting position to prevent switch damage. The booster push rod clevis-locking pin needs to be discarded after one-time use so replace it with a new pin through a simple squeezing procedure followed by pulling away from the second end. The nose of the brake booster must be freed from its mounting position through four nuts needing to be tightened up to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) during assembly. Reinstall the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch only when you position the brake pedal to the at-rest position to stop both switches from suffering damage. Proceed with installation by following the order in reverse to the removal steps.
