2008 Lincoln Mark LT A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: When Should the A/C Accumulator Be Replaced During HVAC System Servicing on 2008 Lincoln Mark LT?
A: Replace the suction accumulator only when contamination from a failed A/C compressor becomes evident and the device shows physical damage including leaks and shell damage and moisture contamination from extended pressure loss not linked to evacuating the refrigerant for over one hour. The suction accumulator stays intact as a stand-alone component since indications of remaining positive refrigerant pressure exist. The new suction accumulator should receive shipping caps on its desiccants until the moment before attaching line fittings since system evacuation must start right after installation completes. First recover the refrigerant and afterward remove the PCM while taking out the battery and battery tray before removing the PCM bracket by loosening its three bolts followed by tightening them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) reinstallation torque specification. The newly installed suction accumulator outlet fitting requires tightening to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) after removing the discharge fitting along with its O-ring seal. The technician should detach the suction accumulator inlet fitting while discarding the O-ring seals followed by the removal of two bracket nuts then reassemble by tightening the nuts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Reinstall the suction accumulator by following the removal steps backwards while replacing all O-ring seals then lubricating the system with the appropriate amount of clean PAG oil. The refrigerant system requires evacuation, leak testing and charging to finish the process.
