How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley in 2.3L and 2.0L engine on Ford Focus?

Only turn the engine in the normal direction of rotation clockwise from the right-hand side of the vehicle. The crankshaft pulley retaining bolt is very tight, and a special tool (T78P-4851 A) is used to lock the pulley to prevent it from turning. A two-pin spanner may also work to keep the crankshaft from moving while removing the pulley bolt, and a new pulley retaining bolt will be required upon installation. The pulley and crankshaft timing gear are not on a keyway; they are held in place by the crankshaft retaining bolt, so ensure the engine is set at TDC before removing the pulley. To remove the auxiliary drivebelt, either remove it completely or secure it clear of the crankshaft pulley, depending on the work to be carried out. Set the engine to TDC. Lock the crankshaft to prevent its rotation while unscrewing the pulley bolt. If the special tool is not available, remove the rubber plug from the transmission bell housing or unbolt the small metal cover plate from the oil pan, and use a large screwdriver or similar to lock the flywheel/driveplate ring gear teeth while an assistant loosens the pulley bolt, taking care not to damage the teeth or surrounding castings. If the engine/transmission has been removed and separated, lock the flywheel/driveplate using a locking tool. Unscrew the pulley bolt and remove the pulley. Ensure that the engine is still set to TDC, then lightly oil the seal area of the crankshaft and install the pulley. Always use a new retaining bolt when installing the crankshaft pulley, and tighten it only hand-tight. Insert a one-inch-long 6mm bolt through the hole at the bottom when the pulley is in its TDC position, threading it into the timing cover to locate the pulley exactly. Have an assistant use a two-pin spanner to securely hold the pulley while tightening the pulley center-bolt to specifications. Finally, remove the 6mm locating bolt from the pulley, and the remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley in DOHC four cylinder engine on 2000-2011 Ford Ranger?

Loosening the crankshaft pulley also means that the crankshaft sprocket is loosened, hence the engine will be out of time. It was established that the feed timing procedure must be carried out precisely to re-time the engine in a proper manner because any mistake could lead to immense damage of the engine. First, the cooling fan and shroud has to be taken off and then the auxiliary drive belt and even the valve cover. In setting the engine at TDC the crankshaft must be taken so it cannot rotate while making the final adjustment for loosening the bolt of the pulley, the pulley bolt can be removed using a special tool obtained at an auto supply store or it can be fabricated by strap steel. Do not use a pry bar because it can cause the crankshaft pulley to be damaged. Place the service tool between these two grooves to immobilise the pulley and then, using a large wrench or socket/breaker-bar wrench, turn the nut on the crankshaft pulley bolt. To do this, the retainment tool is removed and the pulley unbolted from the engine to reveal the side marked 'T'. It is recommended to use clean engine oil when liberal greasing the crankshaft front seal as well as applying oil before fitting the crankshaft pulley. Bolt in a new crankshaft pulley bolt and tighten by hand so that the hole in the pulley aligns with the threaded hole in the engine front cover. Align using a crankshaft pulley alignment bolt so that it is securely positioned then tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to the required magnitude of torque. Withdraw the holding tool and the alignment bolt then withdraw the timing pin and tool for the camshaft. Turn the engine clockwise for two complete rotations then rotate it again the gain TDC position. After that, fit in the timing pin and then the crankshaft pulley alignment bolt Insert the timing pin back and crank pulley again if you find that the timing sequence is not proper. once the alignment bolt has been fitted, position the camshafts using the camshaft alignment tool and adjust if necessary. Engine timing is then said to be correct when all the alignment tools can be positioned at the same time. After this is done, DIN 7753 all tools and bolt must be removed, make a fitting of the timing pin plug, now the procedure is done in reverse manner.
