Ford E-150 Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service the Front Air Bag Sensor on Ford E-150?
A: The front impact severity sensor service process requires vehicle SRS safety functions to be deactivated first. Start service on the front impact severity sensor by first disconnecting the radiator grille through fastener removal from its top before pulling it forward to release three lower clips. Remove the electrical connector of the front impact severity sensor after which you can lower the front air foil to expose the sensor bolts. Failed restraint system operation can result in fatal injuries in a crash so it is necessary to properly torque the fasteners of the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor following specifications. Thoroughly clean both the sensor mating area with the radiator support as well as the front impact severity sensor before unbolting it using the two securing bolts. Install the new sensor by tightening its bolts at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque value and execute the reverse installation steps. The SRS requires repowering to guarantee complete system functionality without faults before permitting a customer to obtain the vehicle. The diagnostic process should be repeated using the original part after attempting installation of the new component.
