Ford F-350 Super Duty Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Drive Shaft on Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Before servicing or repairing any drive/propeller shaft components start with placing the driveshaft onto a suitable workbench without using clamps or vice-like fixtures. A flange holding tool should be used for reverse slip driveshafts to stop shaft rotation before removing the flange nut and finally the flange. The service begins with removing the bearing rubber insulator and the driveshaft center bearing retainer and driveshaft center bearing bracket while also discarding the rubber insulator. A proper press should be used to extract the bearing from the driveshaft then the dust slinger. The stub shaft should undergo cleaning from all grease deposits and dirt and rust before an inspection of its splines to detect nicks, gouges or burrs. Remove these imperfections with a file or emery cloth. The driveshaft center bearing bracket should receive installation with its deep flange orienting toward the back. The assembly process ends by reversing the disassembly sequence while applying Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B equivalent Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C to the stub shaft spline.
