How to service and repair the tailgate latch and Trunk Lid Latch on Ford F-150?

The service and repair process for the tailgate latch begins with opening the tailgate followed by removing the tailgate access panel after unscrewing its screws. Beginning the service starts by opening the clip connecting the tailgate latch rod at its intended junction and completing the rod removal process. The removal process of the latch requires removing two screws followed by its complete extraction (the sequence applies to both hand styles). To install the system follow the complete opposite of the removal process. Follow installation with oiling of latches through an application of Multi-Purpose Grease or equivalent product which meets Ford specification ESR-M1C159-A. The latch release rods should remain unclipped while in a relaxed state with no loose slack amount present.

How to service the tailgate latch and Trunk Lid Latch on Ford Ranger?

Service the tailgate latch by starting with the removal of access cover screws which are located on the tailgate area. The tailgate latch remote control needs its release link removed from the retainer of the tailgate latch rod. Disengage the tailgate support cables from pickup bed strikers after which you can detach the tailgate latch component by unscrewing bolts followed by detaching the latch release link. The installation process requires a reversal of removal steps while you pull the tailgate latch release link to the center to eliminate looseness before installing the retainer rod over its threaded portion.
