- Q: How to Service and Repair the Clock Spring Assembly on Lincoln Navigator?A:Your first step when repairing or servicing the Clock Spring assembly involves centering the tilt Steering Column until you can remove both upper and lower shrouds. The servicing process requires power to be cut off from SRS and road wheels need to point straight ahead before you uninstall the Steering Wheel. First disconnect the Clock Spring electrical connector before taking out its two securing screws. Eliminate the anti-rotation key from your Clock Spring before installing the steering wheel because unscrewing this component at any other time risks Clock Spring damage or system malfunction. Attach the Clock Spring with two screws before linking back the electrical connector. Correctly centralize the Clock Spring before installation to prevent early failure but do another centralization step if necessary. Additional attention should be given to both centering the Clock Spring and avoiding excessive rotation of the inner rotor to prevent the ribbon wire from breaking when reusing this component. Installation of the steering wheel should proceed when a new Clock Spring is fitted while the anti-rotation key remains removed. When using the existing Clock Spring or when the removal key was used the inner rotor should be turned counterclockwise until it meets light resistance which indicates the ribbon wire has fully extended.
