    How to service and repair the timing chain on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer

    You must start servicing the timing chain by removing its cover together with the camshaft synchronizer drive gear through bolt removal. Use a retaining pin to compress the timing chain tensioner after aligning the keyways and marks of the crankshaft when it reaches the proper position. First unfasten the assembly of camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket alongside the timing chain and then perform the timing chain tensioner removal by removing its three attachment bolts. Place the timing chain tensioner before securing its bolts for assembly. The crankshaft requires rotation until the number one piston reaches Top Dead Center (TDC) while standing at the 12 o'clock key position. A retaining pin can be inserted after compressing the mechanism which controls the tensioner pad retraction. After placing the camshaft sprocket timing mark at the bottom position install the timing chain/belt and its accompanying components as well as the crankshaft sprocket in a way that prevents misalignment between marks and keyways. First install the camshaft synchronizer drive gear before securing its bolt while removing the retaining pin then finish by installing the timing cover.
