The service procedure for ignition coil-on-plug needs to start with disconnecting the 5.4L (3V) and 6.8L (3V) engine ignition coil electrical connector. You need to unfasten the bolt which secures the ignition coil before you twist and pull upward to separate it. During the installation process of the new ignition coil you must tighten it to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). A correctly placed ignition coil spring should exist inside the ignition coil boot while the boot tip remains free from damage. For new ignition coil installation use the reverse order of the removal steps while applying a small amount of dielectric compound to the interior of the boots.

Starting the process of ignition coil maintenance requires disconnecting both the electrical connector and radio noise suppressor electrical connector. You should maintain control of the spark plug wire boot during upward traction because thisuards both the wire and its designated ignition coil terminal. To remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coil you should simultaneously squeeze the tabs and twist before lifting upward. Use tools to eliminate the four bolted ignition coil attachments. The installation procedure requires tightening the bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) while applying silicone dielectric compound inside the boots before performing the reverse removal steps for completion.

Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector and the radio noise suppressor electrical connector.

Reverse the removal procedure for installation.

Reverse the removal process and apply a light coat of dielectric compound to the inside of the ignition coil boots.

Tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

Ensure the radio ignition interference capacitor is reinstalled under the correct mounting bolt.

First, disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
