A proper intake manifold service requires complete cleanliness since foreign substances could lead to engine failure. Start by unconnecting the ground wire of the battery and taking off the air cleaner outlet tube. You must start by draining the cooling system before disconnecting the right-hand spark plug wires from the coil and the wire retainer from near the intake manifold. Detach the two upper bolts along with two lower bolts from the ignition coil bracket and place both components to the side. First disconnect the electrical connector of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module along with the EGR system module tube, brake booster vacuum hose, vacuum tube from the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor, and vapor tube from the intake manifold, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube. The knock sensor needs its electrical connector retainer detached before disconnecting both throttle position sensor and throttle body electrical connectors. Before proceeding detach the eight bolts that secure the intake manifold. Installation requires surface inspections followed by necessary gasket replacements before you can install the intake manifold by tightening its eight bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) using proper installation order. Reinstall the throttle position sensor after attaching its electrical connectors and throttle body connectors. Next install the knock sensor electrical connector retainer and PCV tube before completing the installation. The installation requires connection of the vapor tube followed by the vacuum tube which goes to the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor and finally the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold. Arm the EGR system module tube to the EGR system module while tightening it to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.) and reconnect the EGR system module electrical connector. The ignition coil and bracket assembly needs to be positioned correctly before installing the two lower bolts with M8 bolt torqued to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and M12 bolt tightened to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). The right-hand spark plug wire retainer should be installed first after tightening the two upper ignition coil bracket bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). The last steps include replacing the air cleaner outlet pipe followed by reattaching the battery ground cable and completing a cooling system fill-up and pressure bleed.
