All times the electrical hazard at the starter solenoid exists on its heavy gauge battery input terminal so a protective cap or boot must be installed after servicing. The starter requires disconnection of the negative battery cable before starting work for safety purposes. One should exercise care to prevent contact with hot exhaust components when near the starter motor. The starter's anti-theft system needs to be deactivated before beginning any operation. Start by following the procedure to disconnect the battery ground cable followed by vehicle lift and adequate support.
