The first step for steering wheel controls servicing requires removal of the driver air bag module from all vehicles. The steering wheel control installation on the Expedition requires removal of two screws which leads to disconnecting the electrical connector. It is important to remove the four switch plate bolts in the Navigator and secure them to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torques after installation. Undertake the removal of both screws and springs from the steering wheel control before placing the switch plate to the side. The correct path of the steering wheel controls harness on the module plate must be noted because it affects new steering wheel controls installation. Finally detach the steering wheel controls harness from its clamps before taking off the horn switch plate.
