How to Properly Maintain the Brake Backing Plate on a Mercury Mariner?

To service the brake backing plate, remove the rear wheel cylinder and the brake flexible hose bracket bolt (tighten to 15 Nm upon reinstallation). Compress the parking brake cable conduit tabs to pull the cable assembly through the backing plate. Remove the rear wheel hub and backing plate bolts, then reinstall, tightening to 85 Nm.

How to service and repair the brake backing plate on Mercury Sable?

To service the brake backing plate, get the brake drum out and the parking brake cable out, and the wheel cylinder. Unscrew the cable off the plate, loosen the ABS sensor bolt, and the bolts of the backing plate. To install, undo the steps with new bolts.
