You should start rocker arm assembly repair by examining the roller follower for flat spots or scoring. During inspection of damaged areas it becomes necessary to inspect both camshaft lobes and hydraulic lash adjuster for potential damage indications.

The repair process starts with cleaning every element while checking that all oil routes remain open including the passage found at the push rod/valve tappet end of the rocker arm. You should prevent any attempts at grinding the parts but need to inspect the rocker arm pad alongside side rails and seat for severe wear and damage marks or broken edges. In case the rocker arm seat bolt shows signs of thread damage inspect all components for further replacement to avoid future damage. A thorough check of the rocker arm pit against nicks and scratches and scores along with scuffs should result in replacement of components when needed. The inspection of the pad at the valve end requires checking for scuffing and abnormal wear patterns when grooves on the pad indicate that the rocker arm needs replacement.

The first step for servicing the rocker arm assembly requires removing the fuel rail. Before detachment carefully note down where the rocker arm assemblies and valve bridges should be positioned. Begin the process by removing necessary bolts which lead to taking out rocker arm assemblies and valve bridges for assessment of wear and damage to make replacements when necessary. The order of original push rod removal needs to be kept during this process and each rod location should be marked before their removal. Both rocker arm assemblies and push rods require cleaning while receiving inspection procedures. The installation process requires positioning each push rod at its original position while the copper section faces upwards and oiling both ends with clean engine oil. The end of each valve stem needs clean engine oil before installing the valve bridges. Insert the rocker arm assemblies along with their bolts into the ball sockets while applying clean engine oil to the top central area of both components and the bridge. The crankshaft requires placement to its top dead center position with cylinders No. 1 and No. 4 while the damper dowel pin faces the 10:30 mark. To identify the firing sequence look at the push rods from No. 3 and No. 8 intake valves; No. 1 firing position occurs with cam lift on No. 3 while No. 4 firing position emerges with cam lift on No. 8. The technician needs to decide and fasten the correct fulcrum plates according to firing position through partial bolt tightening to plate contact followed by 61 Nm (45 lb-ft) torque on the inboard bolt and then 61 Nm (45 lb-ft) torque on the outboard bolt. Adjust the crankshaft to reach the next set of cylinder TDC orientation before you tighten all other fulcrum plates which must maintain position around valve bridge center. Finally, reinstall the fuel rail.

Reinstall the valve cover.
